The next generation Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang are on the horizon, and all eyes are beginning to take notice. Naturally, Chevrolet’s fans (and many others too) are eagerly awaiting its debut to see what improvements it will offer, and those loyal to the Ford muscle car are eagerly waiting to see the next gen model.

We’re already getting many questions on how the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro will stack against the highly-improved 2017 Ford Mustang. Below, we break down two of the top upcoming 2017 model cars which are sure to be two of the year’s best.

Who’ll Win the War of Pony Cars—2017 Camaro or Mustang

GM has thrown down the gauntlet

According to Mark Reuss, current president of GM North America, the new Camaro is a step ahead of the Ford’s much-loved baby. He believes the improvements made in Camaro makes it well equipped to win the battle of supremacy with Mustang.

What’s new?

From the news shared so far, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro will have the following improvements:

  • Alpha Platform: The new Camaro uses the Alpha platform. This is the same platform used by Cadillac ATS and CTS.
  • 70% more unique parts: The yet-to-be-released Camaro is going to have many “smart” materials to make it lighter.
  • 200 pounds lighter: The sixth generation Camaro weighs 200 pounds less than its predecessor. A new and more efficient architecture built, more use of aluminum, and a number of weight-saving options are the primary reasons behind new version’s reduced weight. The drop in weight (and it’s quite a significant drop) will improve its fuel efficiency as well as performance.

The new variant is also expected to have more back seat leg room, highly-bolstered seats, improved blind-spot visibility, more responsive breaks, and easier clutch shifting.

What’s retained?

All successful features of previous Camaro have been retained. Just like the 2015 Camaro, the new Camaro will be available in both V6 and V8.  Those who like power might want to go for the powerful 505-hp 7.0 liter V8 engine. If that’s too much for you, you might want to bring home the V6 model, which delivers 323 horsepower using a 3.6 liter engine. The fuel efficiency should be in the range of 14-20 mpg in the city and 20-30 mpg on the highway.

Apart from these, all features that have made Camaro a much-loved and respected sports car, like comfortable ride quality, decent fuel efficiency, good cornering goodness, and high quality interiors, will also feature in the upcoming 2017 Camaro.

Price, Release Date, & Other Details

GM is expected to release all the above-mentioned models in the last quarter next year. According to the latest news, consumers will find 2017 Camaro models at their Chevy local dealers sometime around November.

Considering all the new additions in the new Camaro and considering the fact that new variant is tipped to settle the debate of “Camaro vs. Mustang” once and for all, it will surely be worth the wait!
