2021 Toyota RAV4 is King of the hill

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 will surely hit the top best selling car charts in the US. The RAV4 has been the most popular compact SUV since 2018. It has been the best sold car in the US that is not a truck. Combine Toyota’s reliability reputation and the rising popularity of SUV’s and it is no wonder the RAV4 is the best selling car. Toyota will probably sell over 500000 units in 2019.

It has different wheelbase options, but in the US only the the extended wheel base option is available. In Europe Toyota sells the short wheelbase and in its home base Japan Toyota sells both but rebranded the longer wheelbase version as the Toyota Vanguard. Toyota never sold the fourth generation in its home market but has relaunched the RAV4 in Japan now the 5th generation is in production. Toyota pioneered this compact SUV over 20 years ago and now it has become the most popular compact SUV in the US.

Fifth Generation

The very first Toyota RAV4 rolled out the factory in 1994 and can be categorized as a compact SUV. The 2021 compact SUV will probably be a refresh of the fifth generation. Both gasoline and gasoline hybrid electric variants will remain available for this generation. The RAV4 offering has been a success and brought Toyota an increase of more that 20% RAV4s sold in 2019.

No electric options are to be found and no such rumors have appeared by now. The new RAV4 is 20% more fuel efficient than the older models. You will get more miles out of it.

RAV4’s Brief electric history

In 2002, for seven months, Toyota sold and all electric version of the RAV4 to the public in California. Being one of the first all-electric mass produced cars. Toyota later abandoned its all electric ambitions and favored hybrid engines. There is at the moment of writing no indication that the RAV4 all electric EV will be reintroduced. But we would love to see the RAV4 compete with Tesla’s model Y.

Why is the Toyota RAV4 so popular?

Two row compact SUV crossovers have since 2018 taken over the sales volumes of the ever so popular trucks in the US. The RAV4 turns out to be the most popular option in that category. Toyota took out the boringness from the RAV4, added some nifty driver assist features and allows you to upgrade to a hybrid model for just $800. Combine this great deal with Toyota’s marketing strength and you have a winner. The cockpit quality and soundproofing is excellent and the RAV4 is an awesome drive. The ride is also very comfortable.

Drive a Jeep for a few hours and your kidneys will scream at you. Drive a Toyota all day and you’ll be fine.

Random Toyota owner quote

But buying this popular car might be a very communist thing to do…

Indeed, if communist central planners could have organized the economy with as much detail, precision, and flexibility as a modern-day Toyota or Wal-Mart, communism would probably still exist.”

Jim Stanford, Canadian Economist

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 is Reliable & sturdy

Even if the RAV4 does not have the sleekest design or the best engines, it scores above average in all criteria buyers assess when buying a car and the great fuel economy also helps. This car had become a reliable appliance and saves its owners from a lot of stress and headaches.
