2021 Subaru Crosstrek history: Subaru introduced the XV Crosstrek in the United States in 2013. In 2016, Subaru dropped the ‘XV’ and began selling the model under the Subaru Crosstrek nameplate. An all-new Crosstrek was introduced for the 2018 that brought many significant changes to the model. The changes for the all-new Crosstrek included a new infotainment system, a new interior, a new exterior, a new engine option, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Additionally, the company introduced the Subaru Crosstrek hybrid, which is Subaru’s first ever plug-in hybrid. The current Subaru Crosstrek model has one of the nicest interiors of the subcompact SUV class. The Crosstrek is balanced enough to compete with its competitors, most notably the Kia Soul and Mazda CX-3. The Subaru Crosstrek has a higher starting price than many other subcompact SUVs, which certainly hurts the model’s sales figures.

What users tell us about the Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru Crosstrek is one of the most balanced subcompact SUV models in the market. Additionally, as is typically the case with Subaru models, the Crosstrek is one of the most reliable models of any class in the United States. The standard all-wheel drive powertrain is convenient, and doesn’t sacrifice fuel efficiency. Despite all of this model’s favorable qualities, most other subcompact SUVs have better acceleration. Also, the small frame of the Subaru Crosstrek could leave many people confused as to what class the Crosstrek belongs in. While a small SUV is likely not an issue for some shoppers, there are tons of people who don’t like subcompact SUVs and the Crosstrek is one of the smaller subcompacts on the market. Overall, the Subaru Crosstrek has many favorable qualities that make it well-suited to appeal to most car shoppers.

What can we expect from the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

If Subaru continues the trend they use for most of their models, the Subaru Crosstrek is due for a mid cycle redesign in the 2021 model year. This mid cycle redesign could bring changes to the interior and exterior design, as well as new powertrain options. In fact, many believe that Subaru will introduce their first all-electric vehicle in the form of a Subaru Crosstrek in the coming years. Most subcompact SUVs perform better than the Crosstrek, so a new engine is likely to be introduced in an effort to remain competitive in the market. The Crosstrek’s higher price tag (than most other subcompact SUVs) brings an expected level of superiority over the cheaper models in this class, but the current Crosstrek model fails to deliver, due to the weak powertrain. If Subaru delivers with a new engine option, the 2021 Crosstrek will be one of the best models in the United States.

Subaru Crosstrek Facts

Safety:

As is the case with most Subaru models, the Crosstrek comes with tons of standard and available safety technology. Most Subaru Crosstreks come with Subaru’s EyeSight Suite of active safety technology including lane keep assist, automatic high beams, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek was also selected as a 2019 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The safety scores for the 2020 Crosstrek have yet to be released, but this model will likely be one of the safest subcompact SUVs on the market for the foreseeable future. We expect a lot from the safety tech like the blind sport warning and eyesight driver assistance and rear cross traffic alert.

Fuel Economy:

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek averages 27 city and 33 highway miles per gallon, which are great figures compared to other models of the same class. The 2020 Crosstrek’s estimates have yet to formally be released, but the company claims to have added 1 mile per gallon to the estimates, despite keeping the same engine. Also expect a continuously variable transmission

Interior:

The Subaru Crosstrek’s interior is arguably the best interior of its class. The design of the interior is futuristic and upscale. Additionally, most of the vehicle’s in-vehicle technology is operated using the infotainment system, which has been described as responsive and intuitive. Subaru also offers tons of features such as a moonroof, a premium
harman kardon sound system, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, hd radio, more than one usb port, and more.

Exterior:

Subaru’s Crosstrek model has an exterior that is extremely small for its class. Changes to the exterior may come for the 2021 model year, when we expect a mid cycle update to occur.

Performance:

Aside from the plug-in hybrid, the current Subaru Crosstrek model only has a 152 horsepower four-cylinder 2.0-liter boxer engine. This engine is serviceable for day-to-day driving, but it will struggle in situations which more acceleration is needed. The Crosstrek performs better than most of its competitors in an off-road environment, but it’s not turning any heads in standard driving conditions.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek price and expected release date

There’s currently no timetable for Subaru’s 2020 release of its Crosstrek model, although it’s expected to be released in the Canadian market in the fall of 2019 with a small $100 increase in price. The 2019 Crosstrek starts out at $21,895. The public will likely have more information about the price and release date of the 2021 model in the fall of 2020.
