The Second Coming

The2021 RAM 1500 is a little newer than the Ford F-series with its first generation seeing the light in 1981. RAM used to be a Dodge brand but was spunn off as a separate entity in 2010, and confusingly have since been VINed with DODGE.

“I want people to understand that although we will market and brand our RAM trucks as RAM trucks, they will always and forever be Dodges,”

Fred Diaz, CEO RAM

The RAM head logo is a remnant of early Dodge era. Radiotor caps sported the RAM badge in the early Dodge era as a symbol of strength. The RAM badge fitted the spinoff brand perfectly and has become the main icon of the RAM brand. Let’s see if the 2021 RAM 1500 is a fit with the branding.

The RAM series have allways come second to the F-series but this might be about to change.

2021 RAM 1500 is part of a popular refresh

The RAM 1500 just got a refresh in 2019 and it is probably this refresh that made it more attractive. We do not expect the 2021 RAM 1500 to change drastically from the 2019 model since we are early in the release cycle. The new RAM has more technological features in it’s cabin and drivers will be delighted with a large touchscreen. In 2019 the sales grew more than 20%, the drastic changes have worked and RAM seems to have won a lot of souls. Driving assistance seems limited: a toggle switch activatable parking sensor. A blind spot warning system and a 360 surround camera. It can park parallel and perpendicular but still needs breaking and gear assistance.

Fifth Generation RAM 1500

The latest generation RAM’s where the 2021 RAM will be part of was presented in January 2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

RAM worked on improved aerodynamics, by for example lowering the side view mirrors. The reduced drag results in a more performant 2021 RAM 1500. The trim levels have been reduces but now feature LED headlamps or Daytime Running lamps as an option. All front grilles now have RAM lettering, an option that was only reserved for higher tiers with the previous RAM generations. A newly designed RAM’s head can be found on the tailgate and steering wheel. 18, 20 and 22 inch Aluminium alloy wheels are available. With 7 trim levels available the RAM can be configured to anyone’s tatse. Power trains pull out between 305 and 395 horse Power, for more the only option is the RAM Heavy Duty.

Cab Configurations

  • 2021 RAM 1500 Quad cab
  • 20210 RAM 1500 Crew Cab

These are both 4 door configurations, the 2 door config was dropped due to low demand. The F-150 still has a 2 door cab and RAM also offers the RAM 1500 classic based on the fourth generation RAM.

American production line

The 5th generation RAM 1500 is now being produced in Michigan on a former Chrysler 200 production line. The RAM 1500 is still beig built in the Saltillo Truck Assembly plant in Mexico. It shuldn’t matter but America First production might be a decisive factor for many americans.

Price and Release Date

The 2021 RAM 1500 is expected to be released in January 2020 since RAM releases its models one year up front. Price is expected to range between 26000 USD and 65000 USD for a fully equiped 2021 RAM 1500. We will adapt this information once RAM officially releases the specifications.

RAM 1500 or Ford F-150

The RAM will dethrone the Ford F-150 in the coming years. Why do we think this? The RAM is all new and the current generation F-150 is just a face lift. Infotainment and techwise this makes the RAM 1500 a clear winner. The RAM also looks rugged and premium at the same time while the F-150 is in dire need of a refresh. Old school versus modernism.

The F-150 has more power train options, but the RAM’s v6 is more efficient and the best performing v6. RAM no loger offers a cost efficient Diesel option, while the F-150 still has. The RAM also has a v8 option with a more powerfull eTorque system. We at carfacta absolutely favourite the RAM over the F-150 and see why the sales of the RAM are growing so quickly.

It is our conclusion that the 2021 RAM 1500 will offer the needed power to qualify as a RAM but it also provides in the modern luxuries we expect for a car.
