2021 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge is one of the best available family SUVs on the market.

The Ford Edge is a midsize crossover SUV model that has been in production since the 2006 model year. Despite lacking any notable qualities to separate itself from its competitors, the Ford Edge remains one of the best, most balanced SUV models you can buy. In fact, U.S. News and Report selected the 2019 Ford Edge as the best 2-row SUV for families. This award came after a mid-cycle update that included changes to the exterior design of the Ford Edge. Since the model remains mostly unchanged for the current 2020 model, it’s likely that this model will continue to be one of the best in the coming years. The mode sits in its second generation where it has been since the 2015 model year. However, since it just received a facelift for the 2019 model year, a 2021 ford edge redesign is unlikely to come any time soon.

What can we expect from the 2021 Ford Edge?

One of the biggest criticisms of the current Ford Edge model is its outdated infotainment system. While the company would benefit from updating the infotainment system in the 2021 model year, it’s likely that Ford will wait for an all-new design to address this issue. Coming off a much-needed facelift in 2019, with additional exterior colors in 2020, it’s unlikely that the 2021 Edge model will feature any dramatic changea. Assuming the Ford Edge maintains the healthy sales numbers its has in recent years, they will likely make only minor changes in 2021 to maintain the models success.

What users tell us about the Ford Edge

As previously mentioned, the Ford Edge has be lauded as one of the most balanced SUV models on the market. It features an upscale interior, great drivability, and most notably, some very powerful engine optioms. The most notable downside to this model is likely its strained manueverabiliy when taking sharp turns at higher speeds. Additoonally, the infotainment system comes with tons of available features, but it has often been described as outdated. However, if the outdated infotainment system doesn’t matter to you, the Ford Edge should be on the shopping list for anyone in the market for a new SUV model.

Ford Edge Highlights

Interior:

The Ford Edge has a great, modern interior design despite being largely untouched since the 2015 model year. The cabin is spacious enough to comfortably seat five adults and nail a decent amount of items with above average cargo space. Overall, the interior of the Ford Edge is one of the best in its class.

Exterior:

The exterior design of the current Ford Edge model is built on Ford’s CD3 platfporm, which is the same platform used on the Ford Fusion and Mazda CX-9 models. So, as one might expect, these three modes share striking similarities to their exteriors.

Performance:

The standard engine for nearly every trim level of the current Ford Edge is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine that makes up to 250 horsepower. This is one of the most powerful base engines of any models in its class. An upgrade to the ST trim gets you a 2.7-liter V6 engine that makes up to 335 horsepower. Both engines provide ample power for any driving situation you may find yourself in. We expect fuel economy to be above average.

Fuel Efficiency:

The base engine of the current Ford Edge model averages about 22 city and 29 highway miles per gallon, which are above average figures in the midsize SUV class. This is shocking given the power of the base engine. The V6 engine lowers these figures to 19 city and 26 highway miles per gallon, which is a fair trade-off for the 335 horsepower.

Safety:

The Ford Edge earned near perfect overall safety scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in every category outside of headlight illumination. There’s also a long list of available active safety technology, making the current Ford Edge one of the safest models on the road. Expect an updated driver assist system.

2021 Ford Edge Price and Expected Release Date

The starting MSRP of the 2020 Ford Edge is $31,000. This is a fairly high starting price, but the Edge is well worth it due to its updated exterior design and its tremendous balance of power, efficiency, and safety. The 2020 Ford Edge will be available for sale towards the end of 2019. With that in mind, it’s reasonable to suspect that the 2021 Ford Edge will be available for sale before the holidays in 2020. We will likely receive more accurate information about what we can expect from the 2021 Edge in the early months of 2020. Price will differ from the Ford Edge ST, Ford Edge SE and Ford Edge Titanium.
