Expect a Remodeled and Rebranded Trax
The first version of the 2021 Chevrolet Trax premiered at the 2012 Paris auto show. The subcompact crossover SUV became available in the US in 2015.
The US model was powered by a 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder with a six-speed transmission. Offering three trim packages the General Motors Trax is available in all-wheel and front-wheel-drive versions. In 2017 the Trax received some cosmetic updates.
The grill and taillights were redesigned as was the dash and instrument cluster. For safety, daytime running lights and halogen headlights were added. It’s interesting to note that to consumers these alterations represented an improvement in overall quality. There have been no major changes to the Trax over the last three model years.

What do current Trax owners tell us
Supposedly nothing is perfect, but available owner reviews gave the Chevy Trax a 5-out-of-5 rating. The categories covered were:
- Cabin design
- Exterior Syling
- Overall value
The comfort of the Trax’s bucket seats was universally applauded. One reviewer reported that he has a bad back and the Trax is the most comfortable vehicle he has driven. Reviewers report having more interior room than they expected in a compact SUV. The critiques lauded the Trax’s appearance and fuel economy.
What The 2021 Chevrolet Trax May Hold in Store
For automobiles a generation is four-six years, so the next generation Trax is due. In photos of what could be the next-gen Trax the vehicle is camouflaged, but the 2021 model appears to be more square than the 2020 model.
The nose has been blunted with a reconfigured box-shaped grill. The interior is expected to be completely restyled. The 2021 Trax could sit on the G2XX chassis eliminating the AWD option.
Trax vs Soul and EcoSport
Both the Chevy Trax and Kia Soul seat five and received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. The Trax beats the Soul by one mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway. Both SUVs have four-cylinder engines with the Kia delivering nine more horses than the Chevy.
The soul is warrantied for 5 years/60,000 miles vs 3 years/36,000 miles. Higher resale value and lower maintenance costs make the Kia Soul the better choice.
The warranty period, seating capacity(5), safety rating (5 stars), and handling for the Chevy Trax and the Ford EcoSport are identical. The Ford’s median price of $24,300 beats the Chevy’s median price by almost $1,200. Around town the difference in mileage is negligible.
The Trax has a slight edge on the highway 30 mpg vs 29 mpg. Being longer the Trax provides more interior room than the EcoSport. The Ford edges out the Chevy on horsepower. We also se the Buick encore as a valued contender in this segment.:
2021 Trax Safety Preview

The Trax has 10 airbags and a 110-volt outlet. The sound system has six speakers. The only available engine is a 1.4 liter dual turbocharged inline four-banger with a six-speed automatic tranny.
