Introducing one of the most affordable car models on the market: the 2021 Chevrolet Cruze.

The 2021 Chevrolet Cruze is a compact sedan car model manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors since 2008. Since it was first introduced, the Chevrolet Cruze has had one of the lowest initial MSRPs of nearly every car model in the North American market. This made it the perfect car model for young drivers and first time car buyers who needed to build up their credit. The Chevrolet Cruze has never necessarily been an industry leader in any category, but it has always been a great car with a lot of value given its low starting price. Unortunately, General Motors has discontinued the Chevrolet Cruze in the North American market. However, it will still be available in certain global markrts, most notably the South American market.

What can we expect from the 2021 Chevrolet Cruze?

Despite no longer being available in the United States market, we can still speculate on what changes could be made to this model in the future in other markets. The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is actually one of the best compact cars in the United States. The model was last redesigned in most global markets back in 2016, meaning an all-new design is not likely in the next few years, nor is it needed. The most recent Chevy Cruze is well-designed with a fresh exterior, many standard features and one of the best interiors of its class. The biggest downside to the Chevrolet Cruze is the two engine options, both of which lack any excitement during acceleration. Coming off of a small midcycle update in 2019, the Chevrolet Cruze could potentially see changes to its powertrain in 2020 or 2021 of General Motors is interested in addressing these concerns. It should be noted that this is purely speculation and that GM has not formally announced any changes to the powertrain to this point.

What users tell us about the Chevrolet Cruze

As previously mentioned, the Chevrolet Cruze is actually one of the better models of its class, despite being discontinued in various markets, including North America. The weak engines are the biggest criticisms of the current model, however the trade-off for the lack of power is the outstanding fuel ecomomy. The only models of the same class with more fuel efficient engine options are the Honda Civic and Toyota Prius models. Additionally, this model has a long list of standard comfort and safety features, which is shocking given the low starting price. The Chevrolet Cruze is also extremely reliable, along with being extremely fuel efficient, making it one of the easiest and cheapest models on the road to maintain. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more affordable compact car model as good as the Chevy Cruze.

Chevrolet Cruze Highlights

Interior:

The current Chevy Cruze model has a lot of legroom in the front an rear seats, despite being categorized as a compact car. The interior design of the Cruze is very nice. The standard cloth upholstery can seem cheap at times, but you are able to grade to a nicer leather upholstery. We expect at least heated front seats. Next to the smart dashboard behind the steeling wheel we expect a new infotainment system with 4g lte LTE.

Exterior:

The exterior design of the current Chevrolet Cruze model is built on the D2XX platform, which is the same platform used on the Chevrolet Volt. So, as one might imagine, these two models share many similarities on their exterior designs. We expect trim levels to be comparable to the 2019 Cruze.

Performance:

The standard engine for the Chevrolet Cruze is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes up to 152 horsepower. While this is enough power for day to day driving, this engine is pretty lackluster compared to other models of the same class. Most people prefer the Chevrolet Cruze’s available turbodiesel engine that makes up to 137 horsepower, but is much more fuel efficient. Manual transmissions and automatic transmissions can be expected.

Fuel Economy:

The Chevrolet Cruze’s standard engine averages about 30 city and 38 highway miles per gallon. These figures are above average as it is, but the available turbodiesel engine averages an EPA-estimated 31 city and 48 highway miles per gallon. These figures are matched only by the Honda Civic and Toyota Prius models. We expect the diesel engine to be dropped from the engine lineup.

Reliability:

The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze received a predicted reliability rating of 4.5 out of 5 by J.D. Power and Associates.

2021 Chevrolet Cruze Price and Expected Release Date

The current (2019) Chevrolet Cruze model has an initial MSRP of $17,995 which is amongst the lowest initial MSRPs of any model on the United States market. Unfortunately, the United States market won’t get a chance to see the 2021 Chevy Cruze. The initial MSRP of the 2020 and 2021 models in other markets will likely remain around the same price until General Motors decides to redesign the Chevrolet Cruze, if they choose to do so. There’s likely going to be more information available about the future of the Chevrolet Cruze as we enter 2020. This information will shed some light on what changes are coming and whether or not GM will bring the model back in the United States market.
