Despite going public with the design and details of most of its 2017 vehicles, Ford is still keeping the information about the 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 secret. So much so, that the automaker has not yet confirmed the development of the 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500. However, we know a second generation is coming, based on report from the company that claimed that there would be 12-new high-performance vehicles announced for 2017; one of them definitely has to be the GT 500.
Rumors have suggested that the company is working on the next-generation of the GT 500, but the plant location is still unknown. However, rumors from the company have suggested that the new 2017 Shelby GT 500 could cross the 700-hp mark, while still keeping fuel costs to a minimum.
2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 Engine
At this point, analysts have been carefully decrypting the meaning of “sipping through the straw”, which was taken from the original rumor for the company. Most analyst believe that this means a direct injection system for the 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500. Furthermore, this also indicates that the automaker is working to debut its 5.0 EcoBoost in the 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500.
The speculation of the 5.0 EcoBoost is driven by the fact that the company had only recently begun testing the engine, with a twin-turbo pre-installed. Additionally, the rumors have also been spiked by a recent interview of a Ford representative on CNN. In the interview the person claimed that the new SVT Halo Mustang would have more hp than the Hellcat.
2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 Development Platform
Currently, Ford makes use of a flat plane crank 5.2L to develop its current Shelby models and if it chooses to stick with a forced induction system, there should not be a need to change the platform. However, if the company does go with a direct injection system, as expected, it would need to change the platform to a 5.0 DOHC motor.
Coupled with this, the company is also expected to make changes to the materials used in the development of the new 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500. Recently, Ford had invested a huge amount in aluminum based materials to be used in its vehicles. The new material makes the cars much lighter and faster. The 2017 Ford Shelby GT 350 already hosts extensive use of lighter aluminum, carbon-fiber and fiber based plastics. The same would be expected from the new Shelby GT 500.
2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 Body
As far as the looks of the new 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 are concerned, enthusiasts have yet to spot the car un-camouflaged. However, it is rumored that the 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 would have a more aggressive front fascia, with larger air-intakes and slightly opened grille. The large intakes would be more of a necessity for the vehicle, given that it aims to cross the 700-hp mark. At the back, a new exclusive spoiler and a quad-tipped exhaust system would standout.
At this point, whether or not Ford decides to go on with the plans of launching a 2017 Ford Shelby GT 500 would not matter. The public has already given their verdict on what it expects from the automaker.
